The leeward side is the sheltered one, the side the weather doesn't reach, and that is what a car becomes once a tent is attached to the back of it.

The Leeward 4 joins onto the open rear hatch with a wide adjustable sleeve, and from that point the boot of the car is simply the back of the tent. You can sleep with your head inside the vehicle, keep the dry clothes in there, and move between the two without finding your shoes.

One whole wall of the shelter is the car itself, which takes the weather off that side and makes the inside feel a good deal more solid than the fabric suggests. The other three walls are 190T polyester with taped seams and two mesh windows.

The sleeve adjusts across a wide range, so it works on most SUVs, wagons and minivans. A sedan with a boot lid gives it nothing to seal against.
