Col 2 Hardshell Roof Top Tent

A col is the low point on a ridge, the place where crossing over becomes possible, and this is the tent for the nights that happen somewhere near one.

The Col 2 travels as a flat aluminium wedge on your roof and opens on two latches, which is about forty seconds between stopping the engine and having a bed. The shell keeps the canvas out of the weather all the way there, so the fabric ages at the speed of the nights you actually use it and not at the speed of the drive.

Inside there is a 2.5 inch high-density mattress, three mesh windows that catch whatever breeze is going, and enough room for two adults with their boots at the door. The ladder telescopes to clear most SUVs and extends for anything taller.

At 128 lb mounted it sits inside the dynamic roof load of most cars and SUVs once the crossbars are counted, and the mounting rails slide to anything between 32 and 48 inches.
